Charles Ziegenfus and I opened our saw-whet owl banding station on Sunday
evening. Charles caught one saw-whet and one Eastern Screech-Owl on
Sunday evening. Last night we caught 5 saw-whets and the same
screech-owl. She was not amused. Most of the owls seemed to be in a bad
humor last night ... perhaps because of Halloween? Too many witches on
broomsticks clogging up the celestial interstates? Who knows?
One of the five that we caught was a foreign retrap (banded somewhere
else) but we have not yet learned where.
We will be banding at Highland most nights, weather permitting, for the
next several weeks. It is still a good idea to check with us, however,
before coming to visit ... but you are welcome.
