Hi There,
In response to Tom Saunders' heads up of May 9th, I am happy to say that
we went to Dameron Marsh NAP in the Northern Neck on Wed. 5/11 and were able to
see the BLACK-NECKED STILT he mentioned. My husband and I were able to go in
the late afternoon around 2:30 P.M. and stayed till 6:45 P.M. It was on the way
going into Dameron in one of the puddles in the field. Also there were:
SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPER, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, and RUDDY TURNSTONE. A little
further along was the BLACK-NECKED STILT and GREATER YELLOWLEGS.
We also got a wonderful long look at a "Life Bird" for us, a Prairie
Warbler. He kept singing in the ascending zee notes and I kept hearing that
afterward so I think I locked in the auditory for that marvelous looking
warbler as well.
It was a very good day at Dameron as we were able to see so many great
species such as the Bald Eagle, Indigo Bunting, Mute Swan, beautiful in flight,
Common Yellowthroat, Chipping Sparrow, Northern Cardinal, Wild Turkey, etc.
We also saw Willet on a pond on the way there and Killdeer on one of the
fields near Dameron. We totaled 34 species for the day. What a great day on
the Northern Neck for birders!!
Happy birding,
