VA BIRDers,
The Northern Virginia Sparrow Hunt continued today with a visit to Dulles
Wetlands (Dulles Greenway Mitigation Project or some such is the official
name) this morning and Banshee-Reeks park in the afternoon, both in Loudoun
Co. Access to these normally closed areas were kindly granted by the Dulles
Greenway Authority and Loudoun Co Parks. Sparrow hunting team #1 was Laura
Catterton, John Drummond and Bev Leeuewenberg. Sparrow hunting team #2 was
Mary Ann Good, Jason Wanders, Phillip Klein, and Kurt Gaskill.
Top bird today was Sedge Wren, decisively found by Team #1 mixed in with an
RC Kinglet flock in the western portion of the main wetlands cell.
(Interestingly, this is the second Sedge Wren found in No. VA in the last
week.) Team #2 chimed in with an early American Tree Sparrow. Also,
excellent looks were obtained for 3 Grasshopper Sparrows and, soon after, a
Vesper Sparrow, in the central region of the main wetland cell. The
