VA-Birders,
I wanted to let all interested know that the Sandhill Cranes reported over the
weekend at North Fork wetlands were not present this morning. I arrived at the
pull-off on Thoroughfare Road at 6:40 AM and stayed until the rising Sun made
it impossible to see in that direction (~7:25 AM). There were a couple hundred
Canada Geese present, but no Cranes. I understand that the only time they were
seen was on the morning of the count day and the wetlands were being surveyed
daily before and after. They may still be around the area. Please remember
that access to the wetlands is by permission only courtesy of the BSA. I
included the short list of birds found there this morning, as I spent a lot of
the time in the car to escape the 22 degree temperature. Not likely anything
here that contributes to count week.
Please post if anyone sees the birds. In fact, we could use more posting in
general. I am sure there are a lot of interesting birds seen by many who read
this but never let anyone know. In fact, I know that is the case. Why can't
this listserv be more like MDOsprey? Anyone out there?
