Idea:
Could be a barred owl nestling. They have scary, human-sounding screech-y
calls!

=============
Two nights in a row, we've heard a screeching call in the woods. Literally
a screech, not the call of an eastern screech owl.
Screeeech, slightly ascending; pause for a few seconds, then screeeech.
Repeated several times over about 10 minutes.
One night, it was about 8-9 PM; the other, around midnight.
We live next to a woods that runs from Ft. Belvoir to Huntley Meadows.
Any ideas? A bird? Not a bird?
If I know what it might be, I can check the call against BNA or my computer
field guides.
Thanks!
