[va-bird] Nesting birds in Augusta County

Hello all

Today I did my usual pond checks in the Swoope , Lyndhurst , Stuarts Draft , &
Staunton areas . Not much in the way of Waterfowl but I had a great day for
Sparrows. Also I found two Canada's on nest plus one Red -- Tailed Hawk on
nest . If anyone is interested the Raven's on the Microwave Tower on Rt. 610
are on nest also . Below is a list of what I found today .

Bells Lane
D C Cormorant -- 1
Am. Wigeon -- 4
Ruddy -- 4
Coot -- 2
Vesper Sparrow -- 1
Savannah -- 5

Mccune's
Ruddy -- 1

Dupont
Black -- crowned Night Heron -- 1
Coot -- 2

Quillin's
Canada Goose --- on nest
Green -- winged Teal -- 15
Ring -- necked Duck -- 3
Red -- tailed Hawk -- on nest

Boy Scout Camp
Canada Goose -- on nest
Wood Duck --- 2 -- female flew up in tree checking out a cavity
Towee -- 2
Chipping Sparrow -- 2
Swamp Sparrow -- 1

Smith's
Great Blue -- 1
Gadwall -- 1
Green -- winged Teal -- 2
Pectoral Sandpiper -- 10
Snipe -- 4
Also in the Swoope area on Rts. 703 & 708 I had 5 Vesper & 10 Savannah
Sparrow's. For now that is all I have to report but in the past few days I
joined the Texas listserv. to find out what is coming thru that state . Pat & I
are taking our Vacation there this year & this is a good way of finding what &
where the birds are . On several endings of reports some birders are placing
this quote & I want to share it with you . WHERE THERE ARE BIRDS THERE IS LIFE
. BIRDS ARE LIFE

Enjoy the spring birds
