[va-bird] Nesting Belted Kingfishers

A walk down to the end of the boardwalk at the Sustainable Technology Park on
Saturday produced a close view of five Belted Kingfishers (adult pair with
three newly fledged young) at the bluff on the beach, where they apparently
nested. All were perched in a large tree washed up on the beach. This may be
the
same pair that has nested adjacent Cherrystone Campground in years past.
Other recent highlights (on my BBS route from Wise Point to Oliver
Farms/Waverly)
were single Dickcissels singing at Latimer Siding Rd's intersection with
Seaside Road and about 150 yards east of Waverly; four Eurasian Collared-Doves
(2
adults w/ young) were at the second house south of the Magotha Rd turn-off on
Seaside Road (east side of road).
