All,
Not as good a day today as yesterday but still a few birds about.
Warblers included Magnolia, Canada, Black and White, Chestnut-sided,
Redstart, and Pine. Also Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Baltimore Oriole,
Scarlet Tanager, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, several hummingbirds fighting
with all the other birds and of course the wood-pewees.
Several people have asked me for directions so I thought I'd post them
here. Exit I-66 at the Rt. 234 business exit and go north on 234. At
the light at Rt. 234 and Rt. 29 turn left onto Rt. 29. In less than a
mile, you will see a house on the left with a pond. Just past the pond,
turn left into the NY Monuments area. There is an iron gate there that
says NY Infantry on it. Take that road until it turns right into a
circular drive. Park there. There can be birds in the trees around the
parking lot and all around the edge of the field but the best place
seems to be to just stand down hill from the dead tree (it will be on
your left as you are park) and watch up hill in the dead tree, the oak
trees all around and the pines there. As the sun rises, it hits these
trees nicely and the birds seem to love it.
