It is with great pleasure that Cape Henry Audubon Society announces its guest
speaker for our May 23 meeting, Virginia's own Edward S. "Ned" Brinkley.
Please join us in congratulating Ned on the upcoming publication of the
National Wildlife Federation Field Guide to Birds of North America which is due
to be released this month. Consider for a moment the monumental task of
compiling a succinct, yet thorough, work containing descriptions of more than
750 species, more than 2,000 photographs, and 600 range maps. Known as one of
the premier authorities on bird identification, and current editor of the
American Birding Association's North American Birds, Ned is well qualified for
the job. At our meeting Ned will present a lively talk on "The Making of a
Field Guide", describing the journey from mere idea to final publication.
Local bookseller Prince Books will be on hand and will have copies of the new
guide available for purchase and signing by the author.
The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on May 23 in the auditorium at Saint
Patrick Catholic School, 1000 Bolling Avenue, Norfolk, Va. The location is a
couple of blocks off of Hampton Blvd., near Old Dominion University. All of
Cape Henry Audubon's meetings are free and are open to the public. Please join
us in celebrating Ned's accomplishment.
