VA Birders,
12 people came out for a Northern Virginia Bird Club walk at Riverbend Park in
Fairfax County. The walk was led by Joanna Taylor and me. We started out by
locating a singing Louisiana Waterthrush which had heard from the parking lot.
We then continued down to the Potomac River and continued walking all the way
to Conn Island close to Great Falls National Park. We saw or heard many more LA
Waterthrushes and later saw Palm, Pine and Yellow-rumped Warblers too. At the
Visitor Center, Joanna spotted a Broad-winged Hawk soaring overhead. Soon after
that, I found a Chimney Swift mixed in with some Tree Swalllows. At Conn
Island, we got brief looks at the WW Scoter. The bird kept diving and
eventually disappeared for good, but several of us were able to get a positive
ID. We also enjoyed the flock of Bonaparte's Gulls hanging out near the island.
Here is the list of 55 species.
