Ten birders including co-leaders Glen Gerada and myself enjoyed a beautiful
fall morning at Huntley this morning. The highlight was a group of 5 snipe
hiding in plain sight between the boardwalk and the central pond. Their
plumage matched the mixed vegetation and dead tree stumps so perfectly that
only a very good spot discovered two of them. The rest were discovered in
the same scope view(!) over the next few minutes. Other than some Montezuma
quail in Arizona I have never seen birds more perfectly camouflaged. Other
interesting birds included two adult and one immature Red-headed WP in the
dead trees at the end of the boardwalk. A complete list of 45 species
