Seven people turned out for the Northern Virginia Bird Club trip to Sky Meadows
State Park, led by Mike Duffy & myself. We spent the entire time in the
portion of the park on the west side of Hwy 17. Species diversity was rather
low, with a lone Yellow-rumped Warbler at the parking lot our only warber of
the day. Nonetheless, we did have great views of a number of notable birds,
including Am. Kestrels, Bald Eagles, Ravens, a pair of sapsuckers and many
Red-headed Woodpeckers. The woods along the unpaved road into the group
camping area still remains the place to go in northern Virginia if you want to
be assured of seeing Red-headed Wp's. Complete list follows.
