[va-bird] NVBC Chincoteague Weekend Postscript: Eurasian Collared-Dove

VA Birders,

In addition to Stephen Eccles excellent report on our NVBC Chincoteague
weekend, I wanted to report (sorry this is so late) that Jean Mielczarek and I
saw a Eurasian Collared-Dove on Sunday afternoon, May 23, on Rt. 600, just
south of its intersection with Rt. 645. We first spotted the bird on the wires
in front of the second or third house south of the intersection (right turn
from Rt. 645), and then it flew back into the yard and landed on top of a
telephone pole, where we were able to get good views of it with my scope. We
saw it
about 7:00 pm, on the way to Stingray's for dinner. For the record, this area
is in Northampton Co.

We spent the night at the Sunset Beach motel and crossed the CBBT on
Monday morning, May 24. We saw Brown Pelicans, Royal and Common Terns, and a
Western Sandpiper on the sandy beach from the pullout just after going thru the
toll booth, but we did not find the Magnificent Frigatebird anywhere. We had a
pair of Am. Oystercatchers on Island #4, and another pair on Island #2, and a
group of Purple Sandpipers on Island #1, but hardly anything else on our
crossing, not even any more pelicans from the islands!
