I love Lori's posts too. (I am not biased one bit by the fact that C.
Jones is the same meathead who told ME to shut up several months ago. No
no no! I am fair and balanced!)
People. This is a hobby. A science-based hobby, but A HOBBY. Yes, we have
competitive events like the World Series, and I cheer on the Roving Ravens
team in their efforts. Yes, I admit to a twinge of jealousy every time
Kurt goes out twitching and finds, say, a Palm Cockatoo calmly making a
nest in an oak tree in Loudoun County. But this is supposed to be fun.
Everyone is posting their FOY feeder birds and others, including an influx
of Rose-breasted Grosbeaks. How are Lori's posts so very different?
Evidence that this hobby is enjoyable and makes people happy keeps me
motivated to spread "the gospel" -- Friend: "I saw this funny bird
yesterday. I wonder what it was?" Me (after getting them to describe it in
some detail): "You know, there's this really great book by a guy called
David Allen Sibley...."
I have been silent for a while, actually, because I have been sure C.
Jones wouldn't be the least bit interested in my corvid population
megatrending in and around Fairfax City. (For those interested: FICR seems
to be edging out AMCR, giving credence to the theory that it is less
severely affected by WNV. In fact, there's a thriving FICR colony on the
George Mason University campus.)
In short, I thought this list was about birds, not crabs. Lori: You keep
right on posting. C. Jones, kindly direct your irritation elsewhere than
at your fellow hobbyists. This is supposed to be, dare I say it, fun?
