Hello Va-Birders,

Kurt Gaskill led a Sparrow Hunt today at North Fork Wetlands and Sky Meadows
SP, which included Rich Reiger, Kim Peacock, Larry Meade, Connie Campenella and
me. We began the morning at 7:30 at North Fork and were greeted immediately by
an adult WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, followed by 7 other sparrow species for the
day, including a November LINCOLN'S SPARROW. Two flocks of RUSTY BLACKBIRDS
flew overhead along with HORNED LARKS and AMERICAN PIPITS. Ducks on the open
water included 32 GREEN-WINGED TEAL and 4 HOODED MERGANSERS.

Later at Sky Meadows, things were slower, but several raptors patrolled the
skies including NORTHERN HARRIERS and RED-TAILED HAWKS. After leaving the
park, a few of us spotted two young BALD EAGLES along the road just north of
I-66 in intermediate plumage.
