I cut out of work a bit early to try to get a look at the Short-Eared Owls
today. Arrived at 5:45 and it was very quite. Then at 6:00 on the nose,
eight SEOWs (what do you call them...a kettle?) flew in from the west and
settled into a hunt in the field only 50 yds from the road. Got a nice
look of one perching on the power pole and some close low-level
swoops. They began to dispurse, hunting in different fields, and by 6:20
they were all but gone.
Also heard a Woodcock peent and twitter once in the distance SW of the SEOW
field while waiting for the owls.
Thanks,
John Broman
