Hola,
I just received pictures of a Wood Stork photographed on the Severn River at
Hayes, VA from the Gloucester Point Family Campground in Gloucester County.
The report was submitted to eBird a couple weeks later, and I just now got
to reviewing a bunch of backlogged eBird reports and contacted the observer.
The bird was a juvenile, and coupled with a few other reports of the bird
from the state this year that are just coming to light, it's possible the bird
was born here. Seems there might have been a few Wood Storks around.
I am sending this that in the off chance any Gloucester area birders know
this campground, and think they might be able to get a look at the Severn
River. It looks like the bird was photographed at or near low tide.
It seems that the Northern Neck Audubon leaflet that recently was published
contains a picture of a young Wood Stork and an account of the birds breeding
near Wake, VA, in Middlesex County, two counties north and not far north from
the Hayes bird.
Cheers,
Todd
