I wanted to see how easy it would be to generate a bird list through eBird,
which (I could not help noticing) that many folks on this listserv are already
using - Bob Ake, Wendy Ealding, David Clark, Phil Kenny, Jay Keller, Arun
Bose, Todd Day, William Leigh, John Sebastian, David Davis, and hundreds of
other
folks. So here's the first attempt, using a brief walk I took yesterday
morning at dawn. It took me 2 minutes to log data into www.ebird.org, then
about
30 seconds or less to paste that information into this email. It would have
taken me a half-hour to type all this out otherwise! So eBird does indeed
save a whole lot of time. It also sent me a nice document (with the bird
list) by email that I can save. And my data get stored on their computers,
allowing me to make graphs and charts of what I see here over time. Nifty
stuff!
Also check out the News section - there is a large flight of Black-bellied
(and some Fulvous) Whistling-Ducks to the states surrounding Virginia. There
should be some here, too! I plan to check all the large ponds and small
freshwater lakes in the area soon.
