Hello all
Yesterday ( Oct 20 ) was a very pleasent day for bird watching . Pat & I had 10
species of Sparrows & one Rusty Blackbird which was an early date for us here
in Augusta County . Birds that were seen yesterday are listed below .
Smith's Pond -- Swoope
Green -- winged Teal -- 2
Pied -- billed Grebe -- 1
Killdeer -- 25
Wilson's Snipe -- 2
Ran into a small flock of Red -- winged Blackbirds & as I was checking for any
Yellow Headed I spotted one Rusty Blackbird with in the flock as they flew near
me .
McCune's Pond -- Fishersville
No. Shoveler -- 4
Am. Coot -- 1
Tree Swallow -- 200 +
Bells Lane
Tree Swallow -- 200 +
Now for the Sparrow's they were seen in Swoope , Lyndhurst , Stuarts Draft ,
Staunton , & Fishersville .
Chipping Sparrow -- 20 +
Field -- 15 +
Vesper -- 5
Savannah -- 47+
Grasshopper --1
Song -- 100 +
Lincoln's -- 15
Swamp -- 9
White -- throated -- 29 +
White - crowned -- 13+
Today after work I checked out McCune's to see if the rain dopped anything in
on the pond. At McCune's I had the following .
No. Shoveler -- 4
Ruddy duck -- 9
Am . Coot - 1
Tree Swallow -- 30 +
Bells Lane
No. Shoveler -- 2
Green -- winged Teal -- 10
Ruddy Duck -- 6
Tree Swallow -- 150 +
Smith's
Am . Black Duck -- 1
Green -- winged Teal -- 8
Pied -- billed Grebe -- 1
Great -- blue Heron - 1 & One Great Blue sitting on top of a grain silo .
Boy Scout Camp -- Take note they have drained the Scout Lake so that they can
work on the over flow drain . But while Pat & I were there this afternoon we
had a good number of migrants pushing thru .
Yellow -- rumped Warbler -- 50 +
Palm Warbler -- 25 +
Hooded Warbler -- 1
Purple Finch -- 70 + new peak count
Not a bad day couple of days of bird watching for a few hours each day .
