I visited Neabsco Creek and Metz Wetlands this morning. It was low tide at
Neabsco and there were thousands of gulls on the flats. I picked out 3 lesser
black-backed and 3 laughing gulls amongst the more common species. Metz
contained several large sparrow flocks, mostly white-throated, but also
containing some song, field, swamp, and junco. I heard or saw 4 or 5 hermit
thrushes at the west end of the wetlands. A Cooper's hawk flew into a pine
tree, flushing out a sharp-shinned hawk. Other species included yellow-bellied
sapsucker (very noisy), hairy woodpecker, brown creeper, winter wren (3), and
yellow-rumped warbler.
