Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day this May 10th by participating
in the Fairfax Audubon Society Birdathon. Join birders and nature
enthusiasts throughout Northern Virginia in counting for conservation,
having fun, and raising support for the statewide Virginia Important Bird
Areas Program and numerous NoVa surveys that help to identify and conserve
critical bird habitat.
FAS Birdathon teams will identify as many bird species as possible in the
designated 24-hour period within the Northern Virginia area. Each team
decides its own mode of travel, when and where to go, how to get there, how
long to stay, what equipment to bring, etc. Results from this volunteer
citizen-science count will be entered into the www.eBird.org online
database to better inform scientific studies and conservation decisions
about the area's migratory pathways.
Birders of all ages and abilities are welcome. You can either register
your own team of 3-4 birders, or we can assign you to a team. The entry fee
is $5/team, and prize competitors must recruit pledge sponsors. Prize
categories include most species observed, total number of birds observed,
and most sponsorship money raised.
FAS has all the materials to make it easy. For more information or to
register, please contact us today at 703/256-6895 or via email at
fairfaxaud@xxxxxxxxx.
Thanks for your support.
