Birders,
This Saturday, September 30th, Kurt Gaskill and I will lead a special visit
to areas normally closed to the public, but known to be migrant hotspots at
Mason Neck State Park. We will meet at the Wood Marsh parking lot on High
Point Road before 0700; the parking lot is about 1 mile south of Gunston
Road. We will carpool to the state park's fields (known as the Phase Two
area) at 0700 where we will bird for migrants. Participants that stick
around will also be able to visit a portion of the Mason Neck NWR near the
heron rookery later in the morning.
Bring water, food, bug spray and sturdy hiking boots as some cross-country
walking will be involved.
If you can't make the 0700 start, I will still lead the regular Saturday
bird walk starting at the MNSP Visitor Center at 0900.
The special trip is cancelled in the case of rain; the regular walk is rain
or shine. If you have any questions or would like more information, you may
contact Kurt at kurtcapt87@xxxxxxxxxxx and 703-768-2172, or me at
mninterpreter@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Inquiries on the day of the tour (such as
weather cancellation questions) should go to Kurt.
Good birding,
Jodi Bucknam
