[va-bird] Mason Neck SP-- brown creeper, fog

Birders,

What a thick fog we had this morning! It was even closer than last week. The tide was out for the bird walk this morning, too, so we had even fewer waterfowl spotted: only CANADA GEESE, SCAUP and RUDDY DUCKS. A birder also reported BUFFLEHEAD from observations before the walk began. We heard TUNDRA SWANS out on the water, although couldn't make them out in the murk. Best bird was probably the little BROWN CREEPER spotted making its way up a tree. All four of us got good looks at the elusive bird, which was nice on such a claustrophobic-feeling morning. I can only hope we have a little clearer weather tomorrow morning for the Fort Belvoir CBC! Full species list follows.

Please join us on Saturday mornings for the weekly bird walk here at Mason Neck State Park. We meet at the Visitor Center for a 9am start, scope the bay (if visibility is good!) and then hike the Bay View Trail. No reservations are required and all are welcome. For your future reference, the bird walks will be on hiatus in February but then will resume in March. You may address any questions to me at the address below, from Saturday through Wednesday.
