[va-bird] Mason Neck SP-- YB CUCKOO, PROTH. WARBLER, etc.

Hi all,

I slept through my alarm this morning so didn't get to the park nearly as early as I'd planned. I had only about 45 minutes to bird before I had to start work, but it turned out to be quite rewarding. I hastened down the Bay View Trail, doubtless missing several additional species. The bird highlights were a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO singing repeatedly (the park's FOS), and male PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS still singing and showing off in the beaver marsh, and a BLACKPOLL WARBLER still singing in the picnic area. Full species list below.

Don't forget this Saturday is the bimonthly bird walk at Mason Neck SP. We meet at the Visitor Center for a 9am start, and conclude in the picnic area at 11. If you show up late, you can catch up to us on the Bay View Trail; we walk it counter-clockwise. All are welcome on this program. The only fee is a $4/car parking fee. If you can't make this Saturday, the next MNSP bird walk is the 17th of June. Hope to see you there!
