Bart Hutchinson and I varied our routine this weekend, and went to Mason Neck
rather than the back of Huntley Meadows. Good birds included:
2 turkeys
2 purple finches
1 blue-headed vireo
2 phoebes
jillions of kinglets and yellow-rumps
We also found what appeared to be the scene of a Catharus thrush butchering.
Impossible to tell what species, but not veery or wood thrush. It was on a
log in the woods, so odds are an accipiter was the butcherer.
