It was a dreary, drizzling morning today. Clearly what I needed was 2
hours standing around outdoors before going to work.
Highlights: 4 species of sparrow, and 2 wild turkeys. Sparrows were all
in a small area at the corner (T-intersection) between the one-way and
two-way roads at Chinn Ridge. The area was crawling with Chipping
Sparrows, but the others were quite visible too. It would have been
interesting to compare this spot, with "Sparrow Alley" elsewhere in the
Park, but I didn't get to that today. Turkeys were on the first part of
the 1-way Chinn Ridge road. Note: no designated parking is available on
this road, but it is a very secluded and safe road for driving very,
very slowly. The car makes a great "blind". I got a fantastic look at
the turkeys that way.
I hit the NY Monuments area (stream, bridge, nearby woods, field) at
Manassas Battlefield Park, followed by a drive and stroll on the one-way
and two-way roads at Chinn Ridge. Most of the list below appeared at
Chinn Ridge, not at the Monuments, which were pretty quiet.
BTW, no Swainson's Thrushes today. <(;-o)
