Dear VA-Birders,
Seven birders enjoyed the full sun and 32 bird species during a cold morning
at Manassas National Battlefield Park in Prince William County. The
Northern VA Bird Club trip started at the Stone Bridge and walked forest and
field including "Sparrow Alley" near the maintenance facility. The trail
that is sparrow alley has a "trail closed" sign with a horse symbol at one
end, which we took to mean no horses on the trail. However, there was a
"trail closed" sign without a horse symbol on the other end of the short
trail. ???
Birds were not plentiful. Highlights were close views of both KINGLET
species and two YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS close together in the top of a
sycamore tree in full brilliant sunshine. White-tailed deer were very
plentiful, with 16 in one field and many other observations of smaller
groups.
