Hello VA-Birders,
I spent some time this morning at three locations at Manassas Battlefield Park.
Several others were present at NY Monuments, and when the show died there,
some of us went to the "Deep Cut" area followed by the "Defunct Shopping
Center" location. The overcast conditions made for interesting birding
conditions. Many migrants were present, but the backlighting made it difficult
on lots of occasions to properly ID them, so many went through without being
ID'd.
Highlights were a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO flying overhead at the shopping center
making a sound only a cuckoo could make, at least 3 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES
(probably more) at NY Monuments and Deep Cut, singing PINE WARBLERS and a
singing BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER at Deep Cut. These were among the 13
warbler species noted. There was a GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER calling before
sunrise at NY Monuments, which seems late for this species if I am not
mistaken.
I should mention that others saw additional species that I did not see, so they
are not part of my list. One of these is a PHILADELPHIA VIREO at NY Mouments.
Below is my complete list for all three locations (65 spp):
