Paddling happilly on a small suburban drainage pond, across from
a gas station and hard by the Loudoun County Parkway; a male
COMMON GOLDENEYE in picture-perfect condition. He was sighted
Monday afternoon 2/6 around 3:00pm. Pond is located in eastern
Loudoun County, in the southern part of Ashburn; near the
intersection of the Greenway and Loudoun County Parkway. Specific
location is west of Centergate Drive, about 100 feet West of the
Exxon Station at 22405 Flagstaff Plaza Ashburn VA 20148.

When he noticed me watching, he flew off a short ways to the
North-West to another drainage pond in the fieldy area down
Centergate Drive. Probably he is overnighting & overwintering on
Beaverdam Reservoir, which is 2 miles further West & very popular
for waterfowl.
