On April 20, 18 members of the Rockingham Bird Club went on a walk to
Madison Run in the Shenandoah National Park and also Ore Bank Rd. nearby. We
saw or heard the songs of the following:
MADISON RUN
worm-eating warbler-2
pine warbler- 2
Louisiana waterthrush- 3
ovenbird -2
black and white warbler
solitary vireo
red-eyed vireo
blue-gray gnatcatcher- 4+
hairy woodpecker
pileated woodpecker
ruffed grouse
poss. hermit thrush
butterflies seen:
elfin sp.
spring azure
American lady
Horace's duskywing
cabbage white
tiger swallowtail- small spring form & normal size puddled together
spicebush swallowtail
herps:
ring-necked snake- was stepped on by a person but she & the snake both
recovered.

On my own, I saw the following:
LYNWOOD BRIDGE
warbling vireo sang
ELKTON EAST HOME
broad-winged hawk
scarlet tanager -sang
ch. swifts- 2
An adult Bald eagle was reported on the Shenandoah river at Merck today.
On 4-19, I saw 8 double crested comorants perched in a big sycamore just
south of the rt. 33 bridge near Elkton, Va.
And last of all, I heard a cerulean warbler singing on rt. 33 east of Swift
Run Gap in Green County on 4-18.
