Yesterday morning, starting at 0840, Rosemarie and I birded the Staunton
River Trail in the Shenanadoah NP (Madison County). Partial list
follows:
Kentucky Warbler (7) Hooded Warbler (10), American Redstarts, Ovenbirds,
Yellow, Chestnut-sided, LAWaterthrushes and Worm-eating Warblers;
Scarlet Tanager, Rose-breased Grosbeak, Kingfishers, Wood
Thrushes, ......................... .
Directions: Rt. 29 about two miles south of Madison, take Rt. 230 west
to Wolftown, then follow Rt. 662 to its end at the trails (Rapidan River
and Staunton River Trails). Even without the birds, the scenery is
worth the trip.
Happy birding,
George Harris
Orange County
