Was co-leader on a Wash. Area Butterfly Club to western Loudoun Co. today.
While we were not looking for birds it was hard to avoid some of the ones
around.
The int'g ones seen/heard:
- Purple finch - several females (not one male) along the Catoctin Stream near
Waterford
- Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers pairing off - same location
- Black & White Warblers - lots singing near the Appalachian Trail near
Hillsboro
- Eastern Kingbird - two together in a field near the Appalachian Trail near
Hillsboro
Also lots of Chipping Sparrows and Eastern Meadowlarks.
We did have 17 butterfly species - not bad for the day or time-of-year:
