On Saturday, I also birded the BRCES as part of the IMBD. Our small group also
included Bob Blakney who co-led with me. The most notable bird was an Alder
Flycatcher on Arnold Lane which sang repeatedly for us and gave us nice views.
I think he wanted us to appreciate that he was in fact an Alder. Other nice
birds included a Black-billed Cuckoo near Sweet Run on the Arnold Trail, a
Rose-breasted Grosbeak on the Sweet Run Loop, and a Blue Grosbeak flying across
Butterfly Alley. After our walk, I found a couple of Kentucky Warblers at the
end of Arnold Lane. Today, I went to Clark's Crossing in Vienna to check out
Bluebird boxes. One box had the first nestlings of the year with three babies
who appeared to be one or two days old.

VA BIRDers,
I also participated in this year's Loudoun Co IMBD. Highlight was a
Peregrine Falcon flying north over the ridge at Blue Ridge Center for
Environmental Stewardship (BRCES) about 9am. Overall, diversity was
reasonably good although numbers seemed down from previous years. After
BRCES I birded a few of the ridge roads/trails south of BRCES and then
departed east towards Waterford. Afterwards, I poached some DC Cormorants
on the Verizon Ponds on the way home. There were several conspicuous misses
(Am. Kestrel, Hairy WP, No. Flicker!). Birding time was 0430 to 1700. The
list of 105 species follows.
