VA Birders,
I spent about an hour at Blandy Farm in Clarke County this afternoon.
There were several Red-breasted Nuthatches coming to the feeders along
with many other birds including some White-crowned Sparrows. I exited
Blandy out the back gate after passing by the ponds and found a
Loggerhead Shrike perched in the top of a bare deciduous tree on the
left side of the road about 200 yards past the back gate to Blandy. I
watched it for a few minutes and it took off and flew back towards
Blandy and landed in the top of another bare deciduous tree in the
hedgerow at the back gate. A nice treat on a very cold winter day.
