VA-birders,
A couple of people have pointed out that I forgot to post the locations of
two of the birds I reported earlier - sorry about that. The Eared Grebe
was located at Musick's Campground on South Holston Lake in Washington Co.,
Virginia - near Abingdon. This is the same location that we found the
Sabine's Gull yesterday reported by Wallace Coffey. Page 189 of David
Johnston's "ABA Birdfinding Guide - A Birder's Guide to Virginia" has a
write-up and map of this location.
The Red Crossbills were located at Carver's Gap on Roan Mountain. The gap
is on the Tennessee and North Carolina border and about an hour drive from
the Virginia border. The elevation here is about 5600 feet and the
Crossbills are seen almost every day near the parking area.
