Ben Jesup, Jason Wanders, Paula Sullivan, Phil (sorry I forgot your last
name!) and I were also at Leeslyvania on Saturday.
In addition to the Yellowthroateds that were reported, we had a Meadowlark in
the top of a tree!, Chipping Sparrows, a pair of Brown Creepers, a Caspian
Tern, and all the other resident birds.
Along the river on the road to the park we had a flock of Rusty Blackbirds
and a Winter Wren.
The highlight was probably hearing the song of a White-Eyed Vireo. We were
all very surprised and pleased to hear this song again, but unfortunately, it
was coming from a Mockingbird!! Although, hearing it from a Mocker might
have been a bigger thrill than hearing it from a real White-Eyed, lets face
it, a White-Eyed song coming from a White-Eyed is nice, but expected, this
bird caught us all by surprise.
I thought this was interesting since it's probably been 7 months or so since
he's heard the song of a White-Eyed Vireo.
Earlier in the day, Ben Jesup and I birded Hooes Road in Lorton from 5 am to
6:30.
We had:
1 Woodcock, probably 2
2 Brown Thrashers, probably 3
Field Sparrows
Towhees
And the rest of the typical birds.
All of the birds above birds were heard singing in the dark.
