Birders,
A good day at Leesylvania today. I birded alone and was surprised to find
no one else around, especially since I started late ( 8ish). Newcomers, for
me,
were Yellow-throated Warbler near the picnic area (this bird had a wimpy
prothonatary-ish "sweet, sweet, sweet" call, with no ending - hard to figure
what it was until I actually saw it); also seen were four (4!) Black-throated
Greens, a Yellow Warbler
and a Redstart. Other birds of interest were LA Waterthrush; about
4/ Blue-headed Vireos, twenty or so Parulas, 15 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers
catching blue gray gnats, of course, a gazillion Yellow-rumps, 2 Royal Terns,
and
several Chipping Sparrow. Oh, a whole bunch of White-throats were in a clump
in the woods at Brushy Point. Otherwise, the usual suspects were fairly
abundant. Quite a good morning.
When I came home I found I, too, had been inundated with White=throats. At
least 30, vs. my usual 3 or 4 for the winter! And, to top it all off, a
Ruby-throat
was availing himself of the sugar-water.
Not a bad day,
Bev Leeuwenburg
