A Least Bittern was present this morning in the tidal marsh area behind t=
he office at Craney Island in Portsmouth, Va. As I searched the sand spi=
t on the west side for gulls and terns, I looked to my left where the ver=
y cooperative bittern was perched atop the reeds in plain view, cooing lo=
udly (is that an oxymoron?) just to make sure its presence was noticed. =
Also, I'm pretty sure I heard a Willow Flycatcher calling from the ar=
ea below the south dike, between the landfill access gate and the gray st=
orage shed. This is the same vicinity where I heard one very distinctly =
back on June 4, a bird which was re-found by Les Willis the next day. It=
seems likely the bird I heard this morning is the same one. If so, its =
continued presence makes me wonder if it will stay on and spend the summe=
r here.
