I made it over to Huntley Meadows back entrance this evening. Thanks to the
many who sent me directions and guidance on where to look! I was not
disappointed. There were many Woodcock peenting, sounding a lot like Common
Nighthawks, and making the ?peeping? sound (is this the ?wing-whir? sound?).
There was also a pair of Hooded Mergs., and No. Pintail. The Woodcock and
Pintail were lifers for me, so this was a banner evening! A male Eastern
Bluebird greeted us at the entrance, perched on the top of a tree, singing
away. With all of those bluebird nestboxes along the path, I?m sure he?s
anxious to get started. I?ll have to keep a Leap Day list!
Happy birding,
Phil
