Today (12/21) between 2:30-3:00 PM, the LeConte's Sparrow (#339 on the year
list)was still present at Rappahannock NWR near Warsaw on the Northern Neck.
Below are perfect directions provided to me by Sandy Spencer ( I really can't
improve on these):
Good Birding
Mike Boatwright--Amherst, VA
Take route 3 to Warsaw,
Turn right (south) on 360 east.
Go about 3 miles turn, right on 624 (newland road). If you miss it, you'll
end up crossing Rappahannock River)
Go about 4.5 miles, turn left onto Strangeway
Go 1/2 mile, turn right onto Sandy Lane
Go 1 mile, see entrance to Wilna unit of the Refuge on left. This unit is
open daily from sunup to sundown.
Follow the main entrance road until it terminates at a T-section
Turn left.
Go to the next T section and find a place to park just off the road,as the
bird is in a no-vehicles area.
Walk down this road past a complex of barns and pole sheds, turn left on a
little pathway that runs between some grasslands, and the bird should be in
the field by the path and next to a little pond.
I will probably be down there myself flagging some transects for an
upcoming survey.
