On my drive in to work this morning (October 14) in Lynchburg while it was
still relatively dark I noted a low Common Nighthawk hunting in a
residential neighborhood. The previous late date for our area is October
10th.
Incidentally, the Lynchburg Bird Club is in the final stages of completing a
revision of "The Birds of Lynchburg, Virginia and Vicinity", last updated in
1987. The area covered includes Amherst, Bedford, and Campbell Counties, as
well as Lynchburg. The revised edition should be available at the next
annual meeting of the Virginia Society of Ornithology, to be held in
Lynchburg April 30 - May 2.
