Howdy all,
There was a Lark Sparrow inside the Kiptopeke State Park this morning by the
banding station. It was soo close to the banding station that it actually flew
into the net. The bad thing was that it also flew right back out of the net
right in front of us. It was a glut wrenching sight. Had we caught and banded
this bird, it would only have been the fifth one banded here since 1963. Oh
what might have been. I will be having nightmares tonight. Oh well.
Banding itself was better that expected. We banded 31 birds and nothing
unexpected, but still a nice total for how dead quite the forest was this
morning. We ended up having 15 species which was pretty good.
The next few days look to be iffy as far as weather goes.
Totals today:
E. Wood-Pewee 1
A. Redstart 4
Magnolia Warbler 1
Black-throated Blue Warbler 2
C. Yellowthroat 6
House Wren 1
Field Sparrow 1
N. Watherthrush 1
Indigo Bunting 2
Red-eyed Vireo 5
Blue Grosbeak 2
Swainson's Thrush 1
Veery 1
Gray Catbird 2
N. Mockingbird 1
Sure hope the rain comes and goes quickly. I would like to see one day of rain
so I can sleep in for a change but I don't want to miss too much.
Cheers,
Jethro
