Hello Everybody,
Interesting morning at Lake Fairfax Park today in Reston. As I arrived, in the
distance I could see a largish white bird among the 25 CANADA GEESE. As I
approached, it became clear that it might be a SNOW GOOSE, but as I got closer
it flew, barely giving me a chance to see. It had a white head and neck,
apparently white underparts, and darker back and wings, like a bluish to brown
coloration. It also had dark stripes running from the crown down the neck a
little. I'm not sure what it might be, but it is possible that it could be an
escape from the nearby Reston Zoo. Hopefully tomorrow I can get a better look
at it and report something more substantial. Any ideas out there? Is there an
escape exotic flying around that others know about?
Other birds of note are 3 BUFFLEHEAD, 16 RUDDY DUCKS, a male HOODED MERGANSER,
and a PIED-BILLED GREBE. The complete list follows (only there 1/2 hour).
Suggestions are welcome!
