Howdy all,
Sorry for the large gap in-between posts, but the last week has been very slow.
In fact, we banded only two birds today. I hope this front will push in a few
birds but it is hard to be optimistic when fall migration for passerines is
nearing the end. None the less, we are hopeful of catching at least a few more
birds. The last day we will be banding will be the 22nd of November.
We have had a few nice birds the last six days however. A Purple Finch, TWO
Lincoln's Sparrows, and a Red-winged Blackbird are all species we don't catch
every year!
Below I have combined all the days from the 7th through the 12th into on list.
I hope you all don't mind.
Totals from 7th through 12th November:
Brown Creeper 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2
Golden-crowned Kinglet 9
House Wren 1
American Goldfinch 7
Red-breasted Nuthatch 1
Hermit Thrush 23
Yellow-rumped Warbler 43
Sharp-shinned Hawk 2
Gray Catbird 1
Purple Finch 1
Red-winged Blackbird 1
American Robin 1
Eastern Towhee 1
Slate-colored Junco 2
Chipping Sparrow 1
Field Sparrow 5
White-throated Sparrow 22
Lincoln's Sparrow 2 Numbers five and six for the season!!
Song Sparrow 59 Having a GREAT year! Already over 300
for the year! Ten year high is only 168!
Savannah Sparrow 2
Swamp Sparrow 6
TOTAL ------------------------ 193 22 species
Sparrows are all having a pretty good year this year. There is quite a bit of
good habitat in the park this year, which is helping boost sparrow numbers. But
one question: WHERE ARE ALL THE PALM WARBLERS AT?????
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
