Howdy all,
Well the last four days have been quite slow but it is expected at this time of
year. The yellow-rumps are almost a no-show here but the song sparrows make up
for it. We are only averaging 8 species a day now, with most of them being
sparrows. But we have caught a few nice birds, including our 107th species of
the year and almost 108th! Yesterday we almost had a Red-shouldered Hawk but I
was unable to get to it before it got out of the net. Those big birds just
don't stay in the net very good! While running towards it, I managed to trip on
some honeysuckle vines and launched myself in to the tall grass near the net
and landed in a big heap. It was quite the show for those that were there! So
close but so far! Anyway, we did catch number 107 today on the first net net. A
nice big American Woodcock! It has been a fabulous season species wise!
Below are the totals for the last four days.
