Howdy all,

The last two days have been rather busy at the banding station. Thanks to all
the YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS that are around. We have had a few nice species
the last two days even though species diversity has been lower. Some of the
goodies include BLACKPOLL,
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, and BLUE-HEADED VIREO to name a few. More and
more "winter" birds have been showing up. And we are seeing our last pushes of
birds like BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS and NORTHERN PARULAS.

We closed a bit early today because of the rain but even with just banding
for 5.75 hours, we managed to band 465 birds. Would have been a big day if we
could have gone another 2.25 hours. Maybe tomorrow!

Here are the totals for 10/21:
Golden-crowned Kinglet         28
Ruby-crowned Kinglet             5
Brown Creeper                       6
Winter Wren                          2
House Wren                           1
Black-throated Green Warbler  1
Northern Parula                       1
Yellow-rumped Warbler            319
Blackpoll Warbler                    1
Eastern Phoebe                       2
Blue-headed Vireo                    1
Swamp Sparrow                       5
Song Sparrow                          12
White-throated Sparrow             6
Eastern Towhee                        3
Hermit Thrush                           2
Tufted Titmouse                        1
Gray Catbird                             26             maybe our last big
day for them
TOTAL -------------------------------   422

Totals for 10/22:
Golden-crowned Kinglet             3
Ruby-crowned Kinglet                3
Brown Creeper                          1
Black-thr. Blue Warbler              2
Northern Parula                         2
Blackpoll Warbler                      1
Yellow-rumped Warbler              423           did I say there are a lot of
these around??
Ovenbird                                    1
Field Sparrow                             1
Swamp Sparrow                         3
Song Sparrow                             3
White-throated Sparrow               7
Eastern Towhee                          2
Red-eyed Vireo                           1
Blue-headed Vireo                       1
Hermit Thrush                             5
Tufted Titmouse                          2
Gray Catbird                               2
Blue Jay                                     2
TOTAL ----------------------------------  465

I expect the yellow-rump numbers to remain high for about another week and
then I expect numbers to drop to a bit more normal numbers. I always think the
15 Oct to 25 Oct to be the peak dates for Yellow-rumps. Guess we have a bit
more to band!

Hope everyone had/has a good weekend!

Cheers,
Jethro Runco
