Howdy all,
The last two days have been rather busy at the banding station. Thanks to all
the YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS that are around. We have had a few nice species
the last two days even though species diversity has been lower. Some of the
goodies include BLACKPOLL,
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, and BLUE-HEADED VIREO to name a few. More and
more "winter" birds have been showing up. And we are seeing our last pushes of
birds like BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS and NORTHERN PARULAS.
We closed a bit early today because of the rain but even with just banding
for 5.75 hours, we managed to band 465 birds. Would have been a big day if we
could have gone another 2.25 hours. Maybe tomorrow!
Here are the totals for 10/21:

I expect the yellow-rump numbers to remain high for about another week and
then I expect numbers to drop to a bit more normal numbers. I always think the
15 Oct to 25 Oct to be the peak dates for Yellow-rumps. Guess we have a bit
more to band!
Hope everyone had/has a good weekend!
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
