Howdy all,
If you have not read some of the posts (i.e. Ned Brinkleys post) you then
might know what kind of day we had at the banding station. Ned pretty much
nailed
what the Eastern Shore is like right now. We ended the day with 522 birds
banded. It is the second highest total I have ever seen, second only to
Saturdays
661. It was quite the day! But we are all beat. It has been super busy the
last five days. 2,095 birds the last five days alone!!
Although we didn't catch anything super rare, we did catch three new species
for the season, HOUSE FINCH, SAVANNAH SPARROW, and SLATE-COLORED JUNCO. The
finches were a nice surprise. We don't catch them every year here. Of course,
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was the dominate species and GRAY CATBIRD numbers are
still insanely high. We did see our first big push of sparrows today.
Here are the totals for 10/19:
A. Redstart 1
Black-throated Blue 4
Yellow Palm 8
Western Palm 5
Magnolia 2
N. Waterthrush 1

stop!
