We had a group of about 20 people of all ages come out for the first "Kids
Birdwalk" at Meadowlark Gardens, in Vienna, VA, and it was a great success!
Certainly the weather was perfect. About 28 species were seen including a
beautiful Baltimore Oriole, Green Heron, and a RT Hummingbird. Full list
follows. We got to look at some Chickadee eggs and at a Bluebird nest.
Thanks to Andy Rabin, co-leader, and Ellen O'Donohue for bringing her scope.
Thank you to Carla Green, the Bluebird trail monitor who assisted us with
the nest boxes. Thanks especially to Keith Tomlinson for opening Meadowlark
Gardens to us on a "VIP" basis: before hours at no charge!
There is another birdwalk for kids scheduled for May 18 at 9 am at
Meadowlark Gardens. All are welcome, especially children. If anyone is
interested is assisting in leading the group, please let me know. Meadowlark
is on Beulah Road in Vienna, VA. (www.washacadsci.org/meadowlark-gardens/)
