The PACIFIC LOON continues at Kerr Reservoir in Mecklenburg County.
It's still located at the Palmer Point Day Use Area. It took me a while
to find it this morning but, all of the sudden, there it was as if it
appeared out of thin air. It was pretty distant off the point and I
needed the zoom lens on my scope to get decent looks. Also at Palmer
Point were 2 RED-THROATED LOONS, a MERLIN, a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER and a
flock of RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, the first time I've seen them down
there this year. There were many more BONAPARTE'S GULL around today
than there has been all winter. A few HERRING GULLS were mixed in. Not
much else to report from the area except for a flock of LESSER SCAUP on
the main part of the lake above the dam. Good birding.
