At the top of a 30' tall dead snag about 50' from this window by the
computer is a juvenile Sharp-shinned hawk eating what looks like a vole. I've
been
watching it for just under 10 min and it seems relatively unconcerned. I've
never had a chance to observe the sparse white mottling on their dark back
close
up before-maybe 12-14 spots the size of a quarter. Dark brown on darker brown
striping on the tail, almost adult pattern on the front, very indistinct face
pattern and a definitely small beak. Peterson's hawk book gives a very close
representation to this immature bird. Dave White Zion Crossroads
